Yes this summer holidays I managed to paint some walls, clip some grasses, pick some apples and push forward some of the home improvement projects.
Yes I managed to find time to draft a whole new IP strategy for Pikkukala for the 2026 – 2027 season that will put us on track to pick the fruit of years of effort and own IP development.
Yes I managed to rest too. But the best of it all? I acomplished some long anticipated nerdy goals:
I managed to move the fungihouse.net site from an expensive Dreamhost wordpress install, to my own Cloudron-based Upccloud hosted WordPress install. The site is plagged with technical debt, cluncky and unnecessary plugins and it seemed to require an obscene amount of RAM, but it is not costing 240$ a month. That will be fixed and we will lead the way for new self-hosted WP based brand sites for our characters. Tastebuddies.es is already on its way. Royalsnextdoor.com will be next to become selfhosted. So much control! Much happiness.
I managed to set up a selfhosted Peertube instance for Pikkukala at video.pikkukala.eu which will one day soon replace Vimeo for our professional sharing video needs. It took some time to set up the separate S3 storage on OVH and learning a little about ACL and stuff like that.
Finally, I managed to jailbreak a Kindle that was sitting around using winterbreak. The proces has some steps but is well documented. KORS reader is faster than the native reader and it allows for custom screensavers and lovely stuff like that. Best of all , a word of oporunities opens outside the Amazon golden jail, using Calibre to maintain my own library, which I have started with Cory Doctorow’s latest book “The Reverse Centaur’s Guide to Life After AI” and Joan Fuster’s “Nosaltres els valencians.“
